Q. Are donations to Planned Parenthood of Northern New England tax deductible?
A. Yes, all donations to Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) are tax deductible according to IRS standards.
Q. What are the four options I see when I make my gift online?
A. When you make your contribution online, you are presented with four options for how you would like to designate your gift:
-
Local - When you choose the "Local" option, 100% of your gift will be directed to the affiliate associated with your zip code. Therefore, if you live in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont your entire gift will go to PPNNE and support our health centers, our education programs, and our public policy work in our three-state region.
-
National - When you choose the "National" option, 100% of your gift will go to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). PPFA is the national umbrella organization which provides technical assistance, national advocacy, and leadership to the family planning movement.
-
Where The Need Is Greatest - When you choose the "Where the Need is Greatest" option, 50% of your gift will go to "Local" and 50% will go to "National".
-
International - When you choose the "International" option, 100% of your gift will go to support Planned Parenthood's international programs.
Q. Does Planned Parenthood receive federal money? State funding? Support from foundations and corporations?
A. PPNNE does receive state and federal funding to support our medical services and education programs. The cost of the care we provide exceeds the amount of funding we receive which is why we depend on private support from individuals and foundations. In fact, approximately $5 million in health care is subsidized annually at PPNNE through our sliding fee scales for teens and those in low-income brackets. That does not include the additional costs of providing education and training and outreach programs across our region and abroad. Of the private funding that we receive, approximately 20% comes from foundations.
Q. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, The Family Planning Association of Maine -- What's the difference?
A. Think of us as a family tree with different branches and leaves - some serving different purposes and some doing similar things in different places. What we share is that we are all working for the reproductive and sexual health and rights of women, men, and teens.Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is one of 97 independent Planned Parenthood affiliates in the United States that operate under the Planned Parenthood name. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the national umbrella organization, providing technical assistance, national advocacy, and leadership to our movement.
PPFA is the U.S. affiliate of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and is part of a worldwide network of Planned Parenthoods.
Each of these Planned Parenthood organizations raises funds separately from the other.
In Maine, the Family Planning Association of Maine (Maine FPA) provides technical assistance, statewide lobbying, performs grants management functions, trains physicians to provide abortions, and provides family planning services in Augusta.
The key difference between PPNNE, PPFA, IPPF, and Maine FPA is that PPNNE provides direct medical, educational, and advocacy services in Vermont, New Hampshire, and southern Maine.
We are all separate organizations and must raise funds independently, which is why you may receive mailings and phone calls from all of us.
Q. Can I restrict my gift?
A. While we need to raise funds for all of our programs, it is possible to restrict your gift to a particular health center or program. Please contact the Program Support Department a 1-800-287-8188 ext 8410 or a supportus@ppnne.org.
Q. If I make a donation, will my name be listed in PPNNE's Annual Report?
A. Donors who give $25 or more may be listed in PPNNE publications. In addition, donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized as members of the newly formed Sanger Society. If you would prefer to remain anonymous in our Annual Report, please let us know at supportus@ppnne.org.
